Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is qEEG Brain Mapping?

Quantitative EEG (qEEG) Brain Mapping is a safe, non-invasive technique that measures brainwave activity and translates it into visual maps. Using a special cap with sensors, we measure your brainwave patterns and compare them to a database of typical brain activity. This provides valuable insights into areas that may be overactive, underactive, or out of balance. These brain maps help detect patterns that may be linked to emotional, behavioral, or cognitive challenges.

Q. How is qEEG different from a standard EEG?

A traditional EEG simply records brainwave activity. qEEG goes a step further by analyzing that data using advanced techniques. This allows for a deeper look at brain function and highlights specific areas that may be over- or under-active.

Q: Why get a qEEG?

A qEEG can reveal patterns linked to focus, memory, mood, stress, sleep, and overall cognitive function. It helps us identify what’s happening in your brain and track changes over time as therapy progresses.

Q. What types of conditions can qEEG help identify?

This is often used to support or clarify in the assessment of conditions like ADHD/ADD, anxiety, depression, PTSD or complex trauma, and other mental health concerns. By comparing your brainwave patterns to a database of typical brain activity, clinicians can identify irregularities that may be contributing to your symptoms.

Q. Does the procedure hurt?

Not at all. qEEG Brain Mapping is completely painless. You’ll wear a soft cap with sensors that monitor your brain’s electrical activity—there are no shocks, needles, or discomfort involved.

Q. How should I get ready for my session?

  • Sleep: Get a normal night’s rest, so you are well-rested.

  • Hair: Arrive with clean, dry hair. Avoid hair products like oils, sprays, or gels.

  • Caffeine/Alcohol/Nicotine: Limit caffeine and avoid alcohol or other recreational substances for at least 24 hours before your appointment.

  • Medications: Continue your prescriptions unless your provider allows otherwise until after the recording.

  • Meals: Eat a light meal before your appointment so you feel satisfied and comfortable.

Q. What happens during the appointment?

You’ll sit in a comfortable chair while a technician fits you with a Zeto dry cap, which has built-in sensors that detect your brain’s electrical signals. No gel or paste is required. The process is entirely passive; you won’t feel anything. You may be asked to open and close your eyes at times. You’ll simply relax  for about 40–60 minutes while your brain activity is recorded. This time will include setup, recording, and wrap-up.

Q. Can qEEG results inform my treatment?

Yes. Results are often used to clarify and inform individualized treatment strategies. Whether you’re exploring medication, supplements, neurofeedback, therapy, or lifestyle changes, the brain map provides a clearer picture of where support is most needed.

Q. Will I need to do anything special with my hair?

No, your hair can stay just as it is we do ask that you avoid use of hair products prior to your session. The sensors work through the scalp and only need good contact with the skin.

Q. Are there any risks or side effects?

qEEG is considered extremely safe. The dry cap sensors rest gently on your scalp. Some clients describe a slight pressure when the cap is applied, but it’s painless. The most you might feel is a bit of pressure from the cap, but side effects are very rare and generally minor. The sensors only record — they don’t send anything into your brain.

Q: Will I get results right away?

The recording is collected during your appointment, but results take time. The raw data is processed and analyzed by a dedicated qEEG data team. Once the report is prepared, a qEEG specialist at Aneumind will meet with you in a feedback session to review the findings, answer your questions, and discuss next steps.

Q: What happens after my qEEG?

You can return to work, school, or your normal daily activities immediately, there are no restrictions.

Q: After the brain map, how many neurotherapy sessions are recommended?

Most clients complete 1–3 protocols (each protocol 15-20 sessions), which are customized after your map results.

Q: What is neurotherapy?
A: Neurotherapy is a type of brain-based treatment that uses technology to help your brain learn healthier patterns. At Aneumind, this includes neurofeedback, photobiomodulation (PBM), and tDCS—tools that support emotional regulation, attention, and overall brain function. These services are personalized based on your brain map and therapeutic goals.

Q: What is neurofeedback?
A: Neurofeedback is a non-invasive, evidence-based method that teaches your brain to self-regulate. You watch or listen to media while sensors track your brainwave activity. When your brain moves into healthier patterns, the system reinforces those shifts. Over time, this can help with mood, focus, sleep, and more.

Q: What is PBM (Photobiomodulation)?
A: PBM uses gentle, low-level red or near-infrared light to stimulate cellular function in the brain. This can support blood flow, reduce inflammation, and promote healing—especially helpful for those recovering from trauma, fatigue, or cognitive fog.

Q: What is tDCS (Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation)?
A: tDCS delivers a mild electrical current to specific areas of the brain through electrodes placed on the scalp. It’s painless and used to support mood, attention, learning, and overall neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to adapt). We use it in combination with other therapies to reinforce change.

Q: How will I know if it’s working?

A: Progress looks different for everyone, but many people notice changes in how they respond to stress, sleep, focus, and relationships within a few weeks. We also track outcomes using regular check-ins, symptom reviews, and sometimes repeat qEEG maps to measure changes in brain activity. Your team will walk alongside you to make sure your plan is working and adjust as needed.

Q: How long do neurotherapy results take?
A: Everyone is different, but many clients notice positive changes after 10–15 sessions. A typical care plan may include 40–80 sessions depending on your needs and goals.

Q: What’s the difference between coaching and psychotherapy?
A: Psychotherapy (or counseling) focuses on healing and addressing mental health conditions with a licensed therapist. Coaching is forward-focused, offering practical guidance to help you meet goals and build new habits. At Aneumind, we offer both—sometimes separately, sometimes in tandem.

Q: Do you work with children or teens?
A: Yes. We support clients of all ages, including children, teens, and young adults. We tailor approaches based on developmental stage and emotional needs.

Q: Where are you located?
A: We’re based in Greenwood Village, Colorado and Denver, Colorado and serve clients in-person and remotely. Some services, like qEEG brain mapping, require in-office or sessions. Some neurotherapy services, such as neurofeedback and PBM, may be available remotely.

Q: Can I use insurance?

Your care may be eligible for insurance reimbursement, though coverage is not guaranteed. Please talk with us and we can review your deductible, co-insurance/copays and potential coverage. Your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is the best source of information regarding coverage. We also have a financing option through CareCredit available. Please ask your practitioner or contact the office, if you’re interested in learning more about this.

Q: When do we talk about pricing for treatment?

After your brain map report review, all treatment plans and package options will be explained clearly. You can select the option that works best for you.

Q: Who do I contact with questions?

Our admin team is here to help with scheduling, billing, and general questions. You can text or call our office at 720.370.6446 or email us at contact@aneumind.com.
